How to Sell Halloween Costumes on Amazon

Knowing what the top costumes are doesn’t just help give you ideas for what to wear to your next Halloween party but also gives you a way to capitalize on the influx of customers interested in Halloween costumes.

Using Amazon’s free FBA Revenue Calculator tool, we can plug in the ASIN of this costume, along with our buy cost to see what the potential profit will be for both FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon) and FBM (Fulfilled by Merchant) fulfillment methods. 

If you use FBA, you can earn a profit of $6.42, or a 17% profit margin, after the cost of goods and Amazon fees — which is pretty good. You could potentially earn more profit if you fulfill this product yourself, depending on shipping costs. Considering this product sells about 50 times per day according to the Jungle Scout Extension, it is a good arbitrage (reselling) opportunity. 

Sellers can also do what’s called private label, which means creating your own branded Halloween costume. While it is too late in the year to do this, you can still earn some money with retail and online arbitrage.

Halloween 2023, the search volume fully spiked in October with over 1.6 million searches per week as consumers prepared for a fun and spooky Halloween!

1. Taylor Swift/Travis Kelce

Even if you’re not a football fan or a swiftie, you know the Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce relationship. As they are both constantly in the news and all over social media, this will be a big couple costume this Halloween season. 

It’s still early, but searches for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce costume-related keywords are trending up on Amazon. 

While there is no one specific Taylor Swift costume consumers are searching for, it will likely be various outfits and accessories that she often features in her concerts. Expect to see many couples dressed as these two this year!

2. Wizard of Oz

Classic Wizard of Oz costumes are enjoying a resurgence, driven by the buzz surrounding the upcoming Wicked movie, which will be released in November 2024. Costumes like Dorothy’s blue gingham dress and even Toto the dog in a basket are trending high on Amazon. 

Currently, the product “Wizard of Oz Dorothy’s Toto In A Basket Costume Accessory” sells 700 units per month. I suspect it will continue to grow more as we near Halloween.

Amazon searches for the brothers’ iconic red and green plumber outfits have spiked, with fans of all ages getting ready to suit up in overalls, hats, and mustaches. The Mario franchise remains one of the most beloved, and this costume duo is guaranteed to be everywhere this Halloween.

7. Pokémon

Pokémon never goes out of style, and characters like Pikachu, Charizard, and Squirtle continue to inspire costume trends. Amazon is seeing high search volume for both adult and kids’ Pokémon costumes, with full-body suits and themed accessories selling fast. 

This kid’s Charizard costume is already selling over 1,400 units per month.

One of the top Harry Potter costumes features his robe and is already selling over 1,000 units per month in early September. 

10. Hermione 

Of course, after Harry Potter is Hermione. Anything Harry Potter-related will be super popular around Halloween as more younger generations read the books and see the movies. 

One Hermione costume for girls is doing insane numbers on Amazon! Over 2,400 units are sold per month, and over $88,000 in monthly revenue is generated leading up to Halloween. Last season, this costume peaked at nearly half a million in revenue!
