The hardest part about selling on Amazon is, well, figuring out what to sell on Amazon. You may have what you think is a great idea for a product, but smart sellers rely on data — not always their gut instincts — for which products to invest in.
This is especially true in September as we move into the fall months. This time of year is when kids go back to school and seasonal fall items start to pick up again — which sellers can take advantage of.
How do you pick the best products to sell on Amazon? How do you know what consumers are buying during this time of year? How much inventory should you purchase?
We’ll answer all those questions and more in this article, so keep reading.
1. Back-to-school supplies
As the summer wraps up, parents and students will look for supplies to prepare for the new school year.
There are plenty of arbitrage, wholesale, and private label opportunities for school supplies. Take a look at your local stores’ notebook and office supply sections and start scanning products to see what kind of profit you can achieve.
Use Jungle Scout’s Product Database or Opportunity Finder for private label to discover low competition products. School supplies also provide opportunities to bundle various complementary products together.
Let’s look at the numbers.
The search volume for the keyword “back to school” is up 32,000% for the last 30 days! Consumers are searching for back-to-school products right now, so it’s time to start thinking about what products you can offer students.

2. Halloween decorations
Believe it or not, consumers start to shop for Halloween decorations as soon as August, so September is a great time to sell Halloween products and costumes.
Now is the time to start thinking about Halloween products you can start selling now and be ahead of other sellers.
You can also follow all business models with Halloween products: Arbitrage, wholesale, and even private label (though you may be late to the game for private label.)
Let’s look at the numbers.
As we near the end of August and early September, the search volume for each of these keywords will skyrocket even more.
Here’s a tip: once you start seeing your local grocery stores putting Halloween products on display, you need to stock up and begin selling these items.
3. Thanksgiving supplies
Before you know it, it will be time to carve the turkey and meet up with your family for Thanksgiving. To prepare, consumers have already started to search for Thanksgiving decorations.
There are tons of opportunities to sell Thanksgiving-related items on Amazon, whether through arbitrage, wholesale, or private label.
Let’s take a look at the keyword volume.

Fall is right around the corner, so of course, consumers are going to be shopping for a variety of fall decor for the interior and exterior of their homes. Like Halloween, searches for these types of items are already trending up.
Fall decor is broad, so there are a lot of different products you can offer this time of year that could satisfy that search.
Let’s take a look at the keyword volume.
All of these keywords have been trending upwards over the past 30 days, with strong search volume.
5. Dorm room supplies
This can fall under back-to-school supplies, but the search volume is too high not to mention it. A whole variety of products can fit within this niche, such as organizers, rice cookers, shower caddies and more. When you are creating a listing for your product, be sure to add dorm-related keywords.
There are many reselling opportunities for dorm room supplies, as these products can fall under many categories.
Let’s look at the numbers.
As you can see, the search volume for these keywords is very high, and most of these keywords are easy to rank for, according to Keyword Scout.
