Key Insights
1.
Consumer spending was down, and rising inflation and savings were top of mind. 38% of consumers said their overall spending would decrease in Q1. Why? 72% of consumers said rising inflation has affected their purchasing, and 52% were saving up for a big purchase or expense.

Pricing and deals acted as powerful motivators for online purchases and brand loyalty. 53% of consumers were led to purchase because of deals, coupons, or discount codes, and nearly half (47%) said they bought from their favorite brands due to affordability.
3.
Self-care, home improvement, and the “homebody economy” continued to be a hallmark at the start of 2022. 60% of consumers said they would spend more time at home in 2022 than before the pandemic. Half were more willing to spend money on their homes, and 62% had a greater interest in self-care than before the pandemic as well.

Methodology
Between February 4-8, 2022, Jungle Scout conducted an anonymous survey among a panel of 950 U.S. consumers about their buying preferences and behaviors. Respondents represent every U.S. state, all genders, and ages 18 to 75+, as well as all employment types and varying income levels.
